Overview

 

The Disease Prevention and Control (DPC) Directorate was established in 2022 after the Jordan Center for Disease Control (JCDC)'s bylaws and organizational structure were released. Based on the main strategic themes established for the center's activities and responsibilities, the DPC directorate will focus on the first strategic goal within its overall framework, which states "establishing the JCDC's role as a major entity to prevent, combat and mitigate health threats and promote health security in Jordan."

Goals and Objectives

 

 Coordinate the national efforts among all partners to prevent and control epidemics, infectious diseases, and other related health and environmental threats.

 Support national efforts to strengthen health system practices in Jordan to prevent and control communicable and non-communicable diseases to improve health outcomes.

 Strengthen partnerships among different stakeholders to prevent and control communicable and non-communicable diseases.

 Raise health awareness and capacity building for health workers regarding preventing communicable and non-communicable diseases and promote safe health practices.

Tasks and Duties

 

 Map and review existing disease prevention policies, strategies, and guidelines related to epidemics, communicable and zoonotic diseases within “One Health” approach and health-related environmental threats.

 Updating, developing, and recommending national preventive “One Health” policies, strategies, guidelines, and Standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to epidemics, communicable and zoonotic diseases, within “One Health”, in addition to health-related environmental threats

 Disseminate preventive programs for communicable diseases at the national level

 Host and coordinate “One Health” national advisory and/or technical committees related to combating and controlling epidemics, communicable diseases, and other health and related environmental threats

 Supervise the development and implementation of various preventive programs to combat antimicrobial resistance.

 Map and review existing preventive non-communicable diseases policies, strategies, and registries.

 Coordinate efforts at the national level among different stakeholders to develop and update preventive policies and guidelines related to non-communicable diseases.

 Focus on raising health awareness of various health topics in the form of (brochures and educational materials) and focus on international awareness days and for example what have been done:

  • Cholera brochure.
  • Most common viral respiratory infections.
  • World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Leaflet
 Adopt different technologies in preventive programs for non-communicable diseases.

 Provide data and statistics that fall within the competence of the directorate and archive them within national registries' of epidemics and non-communicable diseases and ensure the quality of data.

 Link the JCDC with hospitals and health centers to identify cases of different diseases that fall within the scope of the directorate's mandates and take the necessary measures and actions to document them in cooperation with the IT Dept.

 Supervise the development and implementation of various programs to detect and identify risk factors related to non-communicable diseases and work to combat and prevent them.

 Disseminate preventive programs for non-communicable diseases at the national level.

 Cooperation with relevant national, regional, and international partners with different specialties, to raise community health awareness to combat various epidemics and diseases.

 Cooperate with relevant national and international partners with different specialties to raise health literacy and capacity building of health workers.

 Scientific and academic cooperation with related entities in local, regional, and international conferences in the field of prevention and control of epidemics and diseases.
